REFLECTIONS

What have I learned in this module?

I gained a deeper understanding of design principles and how to apply them to my work. A design piece can look better depending on how each element is used. Communicating a design's purpose is different from understanding design theory. Designers don't randomly piece together designs based on aesthetics. The positioning and, more importantly, design principles that make a piece of art a masterpiece are more important. Every line, shape, object, and design principle has a purpose. Designing well is important, but explaining why is even more important.

What did I enjoy the most?

I liked how our freedom allowed us to express ourselves in many different kinds of ways. It was fun to be able to draw without the constraints of every other design class I'd taken. Another highlight of this module was Ms. Jinchi herself. Her acceptance and understanding created one of the safest and most comfortable learning environments I've ever experienced. She has not only been a very nice and entertaining lecturer to talk to, but we could always reach out to her and get helpful feedback when we showed her our work.

What did I not enjoy the most?

When I was struggling to come up with ideas for my final project, I spent more than a week deciding how to better represent my sketch in my final design.

What have I learned about myself through this module?

I discovered that constructive criticism from others can help me come up with new ideas and put things in perspective.

What has changed and what has not in my learning journey?

Throughout this module, I learned how to analyze and explain my own work to others. To avoid an overload of work nearing the end of deadlines, I must also remember to document my work on my portfolio as soon as a class has finished and feedback is provided.

What could be improved in this module?

As much as I loved and enjoyed this module, I wish we had been given more time for the final project and less time for the first two tasks, which I felt did not require as much time as we were given.
