Experience
Taking this module was a practical journey through using Adobe Illustrator for storytelling. It began by learning the basics and gradually moved into more complex tasks. Starting with drawing characters, I got the hang of using shapes and colours to create different figures. This part helped me understand how to give personality to illustrations. Then, working on editorial illustrations was about simplifying ideas into visuals. It was challenging to convey a message in a limited space, yet keep it visually interesting. Finally, making digital triptychs, or three-panel illustrations, brought together what I'd learned. It was about telling a story or showing a theme across three pictures.
ObservationsDuring the module, I noticed that Adobe Illustrator is a versatile tool. It helped me experiment a lot, creating detailed artwork using shapes and colors. Drawing characters taught me how important it is to get the shapes and sizes right, and how to make characters look unique. Editorial illustrations showed me how to condense complex ideas into simple visuals. Creating digital triptychs made me understand how to connect images together to tell a story or convey a theme.
FindingsFrom this module, I realized that using Adobe Illustrator requires a mix of creativity and knowing how the tools work. It's not just about drawing; it's about planning and refining to get the desired result. I learned that good illustrations are not just about how they look but also about how well they tell a story. This was important in character design and editorial illustrations. Making digital triptychs taught me the importance of coherence and storytelling across multiple images.
